Cultural Narrative:
Growing up along the Murray River at Thurgoona near Albury in the 1840s, John Mitchell got to know many Wiradjuri people and learned to speak their language. He wrote newspaper articles about Aboriginal culture using the name ‘Chips’, and his book Aboriginal Language: Woradgery Tongue was published in 1904.
